The Santa Claus Town Council met in a Budget Workshop Meeting on July 23, 2012. The meeting was called to order by Ron Smith at 5:30 P.M.
Present: Ron Smith, Kevin Burke, Mike Johannes, & Elmer Dilger. Also present was Kelly Greulich; Clerk-Treasurer, Lisa O’Brien Park & Recreation Department Director.
Smith stated we have a few change orders for the new Fire Station in the amount of $ 14,807.00 which includes the storage closet under steps in the amount of $ 2,872.00, cascade room changes in the amount of $ 2,660.00, and the underground downspout piping revised in the amount of $ 9,275.00. Burke made the motion for the above change orders in the amount of $ 14, 807.00. Johannes seconded the motion.
O’Brien informed the council that someone from the fire station used the outside water spout at the Daycare and left it on. April Susnjara was picking up her son from daycare and noticed the hose was on and a large area around the hose was wet. This was on a Friday and thank goodness April saw this or this could have been very costly if it would of run all weekend. Smith stated he will take care of the hose situation with Suefert.
Smith stated he had no problem approving the budget the way it is. We may not do the capital improvements that are listed but we can go ahead and approve the budget.
O’Brien informed the council that they did not receive as much tax revenue in June as was anticipated so at this point they are going to hold off on concreting the walking path with the additional appropriations from earlier this year in the amount of $ 16,000.00. We want to make sure we have enough funds to get through 2012. O’Brien asked the council if they would be able to find the funds to support the project since it was listed in the three grant application as matching funds from the town. Smith stated he wanted to talk to Patmore about the grants. O’Brien stated she had copies available for the council to see. Smith said he still wanted to talk to Patmore about the grants and that at the next council meeting he would have an answer.
Smith stated to O’Brien that no one has met with the seniors on the community center. A discussion followed about the community center and Yellig Park. The Park & Recreation Department and the Town Council will meet in a Special meeting on September 26, 2012 at 6:00 pm at the Santa Claus Town Hall.
O’Brien asked the council if they had any questions concerning the anonymous letter. The Park & Recreation Board met with me (Lisa) and discussed in detail the accusation surrounding the letter. The Board found all accusation in the anonymous letter to be untrue. O’Brien explained to the council that yes the truck has been at Joe Asbury’s, Todd Grunhoefer’s and the O’Brien house on occasions to drop off the plants and pick up the plants that the seniors have donated over the years that are housed normally in the entrance way at the community center. Asbury, Grundhoefer and O’Brien have kept the plants in their basements or house in the off season. I have stopped at Holiday Foods to buy air fresheners for the bathrooms at the park and have left from there to go home. I have taken the sack into my house so that the air fresheners won’t melt in the truck. The Park Board has taken the steps to have a diesel tank added to the truck bed and had detailing done on the back glass of the truck that reads, Santa Claus Park & Recreation. O’Brien asked, “Does anyone have further questions”?
For the record Council Members not in favor of the additional full-time police officer, new police vehicle, and irrigation at Yellig Park for the 2013 budget are Burke, Dilger and Smith. Greulich stated that the park should look into having a flow meter installed so that they do not have to pay sewer on the water they use to irrigate the fields. Smith asked O’Brien to contact Luthy to see what the cost would be to have the meter installed.
Smith asked the council to approve advertisement of the 2013 budget. Johannes made a motion to approve advertisement of the 2013 budget. Dilger seconded the motion.
With no further business, Johannes moved to adjourn the meeting at 6:25 P.M. Dilger seconded the motion.
